As a member of the International Liaison and Protocol committee, Mr. The seniors in District B were given special treatment with gathering moments through District B’s Senior Citizen Christmas Party, Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, and Senior Citizen City Hall and Downtown Tours. Johnson employed and empowered young people from high schools in his District and from local colleges by offering them political experience and community service opportunities as interns in his office.One of Johnson’s last major negotiations was to get 3.5 million of federal dollars donated to Texas Southern University to refurbish the historic Deluxe Theater in 5th Ward into a theater arts school. Council Member Johnson hosted several youth-oriented community events designed to empower and equip young adults for future success through workshops and training forums. He was able to bring several new business developments into his District to ensure that the people living in the district would be gainfully employed by negotiating in the contract to hire people from within the District. His main focus was to enhance the people he served, by building for change, as he built to reconstruct the blighted communities and develop entrepreneurial opportunities and business mechanisms. By accomplishing the aforementioned objective he was able to improve the quality of life for it’s over 250,000 constituents. Johnson developed sustainable mixed-income communities, comfortable and stable living for senior citizens, more green space for parks, and better commercialism for urban communities. Previously, as a Houston City Council Member, Johnson embraced “Leading by Example” as hissignature motto to help motivate communities and business opportunities both local and internationally.Īs a City Council Member, Mr. Johnson is co-owner of two daycares in Houston. For over 25 years he has worked to create harmony and self-sufficiency through community involvement, neighborhood organizations and business development.
